Tennis Drills You Can Practice At Home
The typical way to practice Tennis has obviously practiced it with a partner. But sometimes no one is available or you simply want to practice on your own to improve your game. Here are some ways to practice Tennis alone, with someone, with or without additional equipment.
1.Hit The Wall
You need a hard surface, a Tennis ball and a racket for this drill.
How To Do
The old Tennis saying goes, “No matter how good you are, you are never better than a wall”. So you just have to find a hard surface to hit against. Hit the Tennis ball against the surface and improve your skills.
This drill will help you to face tough opponents and will increase your muscle strength.
2.The Serve Pronation Drill
You need a racket and a very little room, just a few feet of space for your practice.
How To Do
Hold your racket in your hitting arm. Simply turn your hand upside down. This will cause the racket to lift from the right side to the left for the right-handed players. This is called pronation. Start with 10 reps and build up to at least 25 without stopping.
Follow this method every day in the morning and the evening or any free time you have. It is also a great exercise to keep you healthy.
You will see improvement in your service and overheads.
3.Practice with Shadow Swinging
You only need a mirror for this process.
How To Do
Many of us are familiar with the term “Shadow Boxing” where a boxer will practice his/her punches in front of a mirror to perfect their forms. The same method can be applied to your Tennis practice as well. Stand in front of a mirror and practice your groundstrokes, both forehand and backhand.
Take note of important technical details such as hip and shoulder movement, proper weight transfer during the swinging motion.

4.The Serve Toss
This method requires just one Tennis ball. You can use a racket also but it is not necessary.
How To Do
Most Tennis players have trouble with their serve toss. You can easily improve your skill on that through the method given below. Get into your normal serve position. Toss the ball into the air with your non-dominant hand as if you are going to serve.
After the ball leaves your hand, keep your arm in the air and try to catch the ball with your arm still extended. Practice this method 20 times per session. You can also do it 50 times in one session and twice per day.
Your serve toss will improve and will be more accurate than before through practicing this drill.
5.The Bouncing Ball Racket Drill
You need a racket and a Tennis ball to practice this drill.
How To Do
Hold the racket and the hitting side of the racket string should be skywards. Bounce the ball off the string as many times as possible without stopping.
This practice builds up your forearm muscles and also increases hand-eye coordination.
6.Practice Using A Ball Machine
How To Do
Possibly the best way to practice alone is using a ball machine. You can set up the ball machine to feed your forehands and backhands in combination with overhead shots.

7.Practice With Partner
Two people, two rackets and a Tennis ball are necessary for this Tennis practice.
How To Do
You and your partner will stand about 15 to 18 feet apart, facing each other. Volley the ball to each other. Try to keep the ball going as long as possible. If you miss the volley, you will lose the point.
This method will improve your volley technique and hand-eye coordination.

If you are a beginner, it will be better for you to use a folt or foam one. These kinds of balls move slower and are weightless. They are expensive but suitable for beginners though sometimes it is tough to control them if it’s windy outside.
The regular Tennis balls are okay to learn Tennis too but they are recommended for players with at least some experience.
How Long Should Each Lesson Be?
If you are an adult, then you can handle lessons for an hour. your practice timer depends on your health condition. I can say that your good health condition provides you more time an hour to practice tennis at home.
but rest is also important so take some rest at least after an hour of practice lessons. on the other hand, if your health condition is poor or has a short attention span, consider 45 minutes or 30 minutes lesson.
